COMMUNITY RULES

TAGGING PEOPLE @

Please only @Dave if it’s important he sees the thread. Other @s, including me, need not be so restricted, but be sure you don’t @ gratuitously, as it’s a bit like the boy who cried wolf; i.e. people will stop bothering about @s, defeating their purpose.

ARRIVALS & DEPARTURES

All members joining, arriving back after an absence, or absenting themselves may post their greetings or farewells in the dedicated thread for the purpose. Starting new threads to do any of these things is not permitted.

Naturally, world staff and owners may also post their comings and goings in the world threads for the worlds they work on.

POSTING EMAIL ADDRESSES/PHOTOS

It is forbidden to post either intact email addresses, or to post your own. If posting the support address or the like please post it broken, like this:

support at theblockheads.net

Note that for anyone under 13 the sharing of contact information is illegal in many jurisdictions, and to make life easier we are banning it for anyone. Note that the following information, and possibly other data, are considered to be “personal information” here:

Full name, photos of you, email address, postal address, physical address, age, school, specific location (country and state is fine but don’t be more specific), and any affiliations or data that may be used to locate or identify who you are or deduce any other personal information.

None of this may be published here. You can use just a first name, a state and country, your in-game names, and that is all here. If you wish to share more information please do so outside our network and sphere of control, i.e. don’t do it in the game, on our social channels, or on any other system of which we have control. If you do so, and are underage in your jurisdiction you open us up to prosecution, and may also expose yourself to danger, which is the last thing we want.

If you wish for advice about who to share what data with, please discuss it with your parent, guardian, or teacher. They are in the best position to advise and protect you.

Note that this rule also applies to adults. We have no means to know the ages of our community members, and as such protect everyone as though they needed our protection.

DISCUSSION OF RELIGION, POLITICS, AND SEX IS BANNED

The title says it all. No discussion of sex/sexuality, gender orientation, or anything else that is contentious about personal identity and love is permitted. Nor may politics or politicians be talked about. The same goes for religion. This is an inclusive community, and your views may offend others in these matters, about which people are so passionate. Forums user-names that reflect sexual identity, orientation, or views, political views, or religious views or beliefs are also not permitted.

DISCUSSION OF DUPING WAS BANNED - NO LONGER

Discussion of duping was banned due to an inability in this community to discuss it with respect and courtesy. Since subsequent discussion, permitted as a test, was carried out nicely, the ban is now lifted. Note that the ban will be reinstated if problems occur.

DISCUSSION OF PEOPLE’S BANS IS NOT PERMITTED

Bans are the business of board staff and the person being banned. If they wish to talk about why they were banned that is fine, but it’s not your business. Bans should not be discussed or speculated on in the open forums.

IMPERSONATION & MISQUOTING

Posting a fake quote, attributed to someone who has not said any such thing, is completely out of line, except in an appropriate context, such as the thread where one posts fake Discourse messages about this post has been removed and will be permanently deleted if the user does not eat a pizza within 36 hours and suchlike. That kind of context-specific activity is the one exception. It is fraudulent to misquote someone, and to misquote me could seriously mislead other community members, so don’t do it.

Impersonating a Majic Jungle team member, another user, or another player is not something we tolerate either. Both impersonation and misquoting will be dealt with strictly.

HACK/EXPLOIT VIDEOS & METHODS

The sharing of videos or content that depict hacked or otherwise exploited worlds or game features is forbidden in this community, except for the Majic Jungle Testing Team, who may only discuss such with other members of the testing team and Majic Jungle. It is also forbidden to share exploit or duping methods here. IF YOU KNOW OF ANY AND WISH TO REPORT THEM TO US PLEASE pass them privately to a Majic Jungle Testing Team Member, Dave, or milla.

NAMING & SHAMING

It is forbidden to name and shame other players unless you have permission from me to do so. You will need to email support at theblockheads.net with the details of the event and ask for permission before this will be even considered. We have too many false accusations coming in as it is, without them occurring in the community.

UNOFFICIAL DOWNLOAD SITES

If linking to any unofficial download site for The Blockheads mobile game client and The Blockheads Mac server please notify milla. Anyone linking to any but the official download sites, such as Google Play, The App Store, and Amazon, without doing so will be banned for a month and the link removed.

We can’t guarantee the safety of installing our apps from any unofficial download site, and wish to at least take a look at any linked to. This is for your protection. Please see this post for more information.

AVATARS

Avatar images must not contain bad language, offensive material, either written or graphical, and must be age appropriate for a community made up of children. No photos of you should be posted anywhere, and that includes as avatars.

DEALING WITH SPAMMERS AND OTHER NAUGHTY PEOPLE

Flag them, and move on. Here are the flagging options:

Flag spam posts you see as spam and relax. To be considered spam it has to be an advertisement for a product or service. It will generally not be posted by a veteran community member, but on the contrary with a very new account, probably created for the purpose of spamming us.

Flag off-topic posts you see as off-topic and relax. This means off-topic for the thread they’re in, or if it’s a thread, off-topic for the forum it’s in. Naturally, regulars can move these to the appropriate forum, but if it’s not certain where it should go please flag it, rather than move it.

Flag inappropriate posts you see as inappropriate and relax. Inappropriate means rude, using bad language, containing inappropriate content of any kind, or abusive posts or threads.

Flag all other problem posts as something else and relax. This includes double posts, “spammy” (pointless) threads, posts by users with inappropriate avatars or names, world threads lacking the requisite information, threads about worlds that already have a world thread, responses to suggestions that cite other games or duplicate suggestions, and so forth.

Regular TL users may PM the person and explain if they’ve moved their topic somewhere else, but otherwise everyone should flag and relax.

I didn’t want to do this, but any other response to a problem post will be considered a problem, and dealt with accordingly. That means if you do anything but flag the post that breaks the rules you will be breaking the rules+. I’m sure you see the irony…

BUMPING & DREDGING

When you post to a sunken thread about a subject that is no longer relevant it is called bumping or dredging, depending on the age of the last post. This is not permitted on this bulletin board.

So long as a thread is still relevant you may dredge it to contribute in a meaningful way, no matter how old it is.

Previously this applied to all threads but world threads and announcements, but from now it’s just about stuff that is time-critical. i.e. you may dredge threads that aren’t now irrelevant. Irrelevant means topics such as old bugs, or guides and questions that have been superseded by the last update (1.7).

DOUBLE or MULTI-POSTING

Posting to a thread more than once in succession within an hour is not permitted. “In succession” means without others posting in between your posts, resulting in more than one post from you in a row, and within a short period of time. This is a common way for people to attempt to boost post counts, and is not permitted in any of the forums that make up this bulletin board, even those where posts are not counted.

If you wish to post in response to more than one quoted post you may do so, but those responses should still be in a single post.

If you wish to post again to a thread that you are the last poster for within an hour of your last post to it then you may use the Edit Post function at the bottom of your last post to add to it.

If you are starting a thread, for which the first post is likely to grow a great deal over time, such as a world thread or an extensive guide or list of guides, then it is permissible to post a second time immediately after the originating post, so you have the space immediately after OP reserved for more content.

Persistent double posting outside of this will attract sanctions.

ADVERTISING

Advertising anything not related to The Blockheads without permission is forbidden. Permission may be sought by emailing milla at theblockheads.net.

LIKING

You may use the heart icon. It is forbidden to politicise or manipulate this system. Likes should be assigned based solely on the merit of the thing being liked.

POSTING THREADS

Each category has a description, which tells you what should be posted there. Please read these before selecting a category to post your thread in.

Inside the categories are sticky (stay at the top) threads with the rules and guidelines for posting within that particular forum. Please read these before starting your thread, and post accordingly.

Each post should only be posted one time. If you have reason to wish to clone a thread or post to other categories you must seek permission.

If the first post of a thread is a wiki please don’t include polls in that post. Polls should only be in non-wiki posts, and quite honestly should probably not by in the first post of any thread.

Thread titles should be informative. Other community members should be able to read a thread title and have a good idea of what is being discussed in the thread. Please be considerate in this way, so people enjoy sharing this place with you!

FORUMS ACCOUNTS

You may have ONE forums account per person, except by special dispensation. Please seek permission before registering a second account, rather than registering and then apologising. The latter will get in you trouble!

Forums accounts may not be shared. Each person should have their own forums account.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE

At no point and in no context, except where a community member asks for help with English, should users correct the English of others, when it is possible to comprehend what the person is trying to say. If you understand it then that’s good enough.

A huge number of people here have English as a second, third, or more language, and may not be strictly correct in their usage. We do not wish to alienate community members by making them feel they are not good enough to participate here.

If a community member posts something that you can’t understand, then ask if they can re-word it, or clarify something in their post, in a courteous and respectful way. If you understand their points do not.

If you post anything in a language other than English it is required that you include in that post a complete English translation as well.

BAD LANGUAGE

There is a swear filter in place on this bulletin board. It is there for a reason. Anyone circumventing it by way of non-standard characters or spacing will experience punitive measures.

TREATMENT OF OTHERS

It is required that all community members here treat other members with respect and courtesy at all times. It is hoped that they will treat one another with kindness as well. This includes in group and private messages. Do not doing anything to make other people feel they’ve messed up, such as telling them their suggestion is not original or the like.

TIMES AND TIME ZONES

This rule is one of consideration and consistency, rather than a serious matter of conduct, but it is nonetheless to be followed please!

Whenever you post a time for people to coordinate, please include the UTC time as well as your local one. Google will convert time zones for you.

If you post a time when you will be on to play, or will post something, or anything else that has a time to occur, please include the UTC time. You naturally can post other timezones as well, but UTC is something we can all work out relative to our own timezones, so it needs to be included.

Note that the global rules from this thread are also in effect in every forum on this bulletin board. Discussion of these rules is conducted here.

CONVENTIONS

Apple computers running the server software host MAC WORLDS or SERVERS. CLOUD WORLDS or SERVERS are hosted in our cloud platform. Those hosted on iOS devices are SINGLEPLAYER WORLDS that are being shared.

EXPLOITS are methods for taking advantage
of holes on the game code to gain self-serving ends for yourself. These
include, but are not limited to, DUPING.

DUPING is where one reproduces an item already held in inventory, by exploiting a hole in the game’s code.

Instruction of how to DUPE or otherwise exploit the game is strictly forbidden on these forums, and will attract a ban.

BUGS are malfunctions in the game. They are often what happens when you try and do something in the game and it
doesn’t work when it should. All BUGS should be reported in the BUGS & GLITCHES categories or to a Beta Testing Team (“BTT”) member or BT (tester), or Majic Person (Dave or milla). Which of the two bugs & glitches categories depends on whether you’re experiencing the bug on an iOS or an ANDROID device, or both. If you’re only experiencing this on an Android device it should go into the Android Bugs & Glitches category. If iOS or both it goes into the Bugs & Glitches category.

A GLITCH is a bug that is purely visual, rather than functional. Technically the appearance of an UNKNOWN OBJECT is a GLITCH. The process by which it is created and the fact of how it behaves is a BUG.

An iOS DEVICE is one made by Apple and running their operating system (OS), iOS.

An ANDROID DEVICE is a device running Google’s ANDROID OS.
